The Dalkey Inter-Church Migrant Support Group was formed following a series of talks in Lent 2017 on the subject of migration. Arrangements were made to support families in Direct Provision in Mosney and several trips were arranged to places of interest including Dublin Zoo. In 2020/21 support is being provided to young people to study at third level.
The group includes parishioners from the Parish of the Assumption, St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland and the Quaker Community in Monkstown. Funding for the group’s activities comes from donations and fund raising.
Following an appeal by Fr. Tony O’Riordan, S.J., Parish Priest of Moyross for funds to enable Corpus Christi N.S. to employ an additional teacher in the Autumn of 2014, it was decided by the PPC that our parish should respond as one Christian community to another. The suggestion for this response had come from parishioners in Dalkey who heard the appeal. Moyross is one of the most deprived areas in the country and the school is a beacon of hope for the future of the children. It was agreed that the sum of €5,000 should be donated from parish funds and that a Church Gate Collection be organised to provide additional funds. These arrangements have continued each year and a warm friendship has developed between the parishes of Dalkey and Moyross. Support continues to be provided by personal donations as well as the parish contribution to the school and the young people of Moyross.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been in Dalkey for many years. We have 8 volunteers who respond to requests for help within the immediate area. Usually, th eproblems relate to money pressures and we are always abole to help. We support people to stay in education and this is the surest way to enable them to escape the poverty trap. Everything we do is supported by the generosity of the people of Dalkey. If you would like to donate directly, please use this link:

Friends of Kitui evolved from Dalkey Outreach to link the activities of other Dublin parishes notably Cabinteely and Rathgar, now all working towards the similar goals of education and development for some of the poorest people on earth.
Projects in Kitui are monitored by friends of Kitui volunteers at their own cost, so that 100% of all money donated goes to the projects. While our funds are mainly channelled via Trócaire to the Catholic Diocese of Kitiu we insist that beneficiaries should be selected on the basis of need, irrespective of religious persuasion.
The monthly coffee morning has been a catalyst which has led directly to the provision of clean water for thousands of very poor people. Dozens of orphaned children have received an education who would otherwise have had no chance. Three students now study at 3rd level as a result of Dalkey intervention and a community of women has been helped to provide for their families through income generation projects.
You can support this worthwhile work by calling in to Our Lady’s Hall for a cuppa at the monthly coffee morning or simply drop in a make a donation. For more information visit www.friendsofkitui.com, of see the Parish newsletter
