On November 20, 24 of Ireland’s 26 cathedrals will be illuminated in red, along with the world’s largest statue of St. Patrick on top of Slieve Patrick Mountain. The national Marian and Eucharistic Shrine in Knock will also be illuminated red to highlight global Christian persecution as part of ACN Ireland’s Week of Witness.
The international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is organising activities to commemorate Red Wednesday on 20 November in over than twenty countries. This annual event aims to shed light on the persecution faced by Christians worldwide and the fundamental right to religious freedom.
Throughout Europe, the Americas, and Oceania, approximately 300 ACN events will take place in hundreds of cities. What initially started as a single day of solidarity, during which churches and secular buildings were illuminated in red, has now evolved into a week-long or even month-long series of prayer vigils, testimonies, conferences and exhibitions in many countries. Some regions have even adopted the term "Red Week" or "Red November" to encompass these extended activities.
A significant highlight of this year's Red Wednesday is the release of the 2024 edition of "Persecuted & Forgotten?". The ACN report examines the situation for Christians in 18 countries of particular concern.

We had a fantastic evening to celebrate Fr Declan and all the years he was here to support us in Dalkey. He will be sorely missed but we wish him all the best in his retirement. A big thank you to Jayne and Nikki for organising a great night.
A big Thank You to all who came to the Blessing of the Pets on Friday evening. We had a great turn out for our first one and look forward to next years already! Toby and Fr David had a great time meeting all the other Parish animals.
On Friday 4th October 2024 at 7pm, to celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi Fr David and Toby (his dog) are welcoming the Pets of the Parish and their owners for a blessing outside the Church beside the carpark.
The Holy See has today announced the appointment by Pope Francis of Monsignor John Kennedy, a Dublin diocesan priest, as titular Bishop of Ossero. Monsignor Kennedy is Secretary of the Disciplinary Section of the Dicastery for the Congregation of the Faith. As Secretary he assists the Prefect in the specific area of his competence.
I warmly welcome the news, and I congratulate Archbishop-elect Kennedy, and wish him every blessing in his ministry which is directed to the life of the Church, universal and as well as the local. His appointment is a sign of the personal appreciation of Pope Francis for the work of Monsignor Kennedy.
John Kennedy was ordained a priest on 13th July 1993 in the Church of St John the Baptist, Clontarf. Following his ordination, he served as a Curate in the parishes of Crumlin and Francis Street before he was assigned in 1998 to study Canon Law at the Gregorian University in Rome. Possessed with the requisite canonical and linguistic qualifications he was released by the then Archbishop of Dublin and began working in the Matrimonial Office of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2003.
As a bishop he shares profoundly in the mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd – the one who is true and faithful in the service of God’s pilgrim people. I wish Monsignor Kennedy every blessing as he prepares for his episcopal ordination. I assure him of my prayer and fraternal support as he continues his important work in the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The Archbishop has announced the appointment of Fr David Brough as the new Parish Priest of Dalkey Parish, Fr Declan is retiring and Fr Liam will remain as Curate of the Parish. These appointments become effective on the weekend of the 6th/7th July 2024. We look forward to welcoming Fr David to the Parish and wish Fr Declan every blessing in his retirement.
