John Henry Newman spent about 2 months in Dalkey in the summer of 1854, resting after establishing the new university in Dublin.
He was declared venerable by Pope John Paul II and beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. It is hoped that the canonisation of Blessed John Henry Newman will happen in 2019.
